Email is not free from flaws such as being vulnerable to spam, phishing, and other malicious attacks. To know where these attacks are coming from, you need to learn about email headers. Here's how we can check the headers of an email.

1. Open your Gmail or Google App and click on the email you want to view the header for. click the vertical three-dot button on the right.
2. Then select Show Original.
3. You will be directed to an overview of the information in the header. Scroll down a bit and you will find the entire email header, along with the option to download it in .eml format (email message) or copy it to the clipboard.

Due to the many annual releases of Microsoft Outlook, different versions may have different approaches on how you can view email headers. However, the steps are not different for the latest ones (Office 365, 2019, 2016, 2013, and 2010).
1. Open Microsoft Outlook and double-click on the email to access the full message.
2. Click File menu ⇨ Properties
3. You scroll down a bit until you see a small scrollable panel containing the email header. Copy and paste it into a text editor to see all the information at once.

1. Open the email message for which you want to see the header
2. Access the Message tab, find the options section and click the small button in the corner to open the dialog box.
3. The Message Options dialog will appear, look for the Internet Header box and you will see the email header.

1. Open email in your Mozilla Thunderbird.
2. Double-click on the message you selected and it will open a new tab after which select the More menu.
3. Then you can select the show source code menu.
4. You can see the header of the email.

If you are an iCloud mail user, you might want to know how to do it in iCloud mail. The process is not much different from other email clients. Check out the steps below.
1. Open iCloud mail, select the email and open it by double-clicking.
2. From the toolbar, click the action symbol that looks like a gear, and then select Show Long Headears.
