What is a Shortlink?
A shortlink is a shortened URL that is used to direct visitors to a specific website page or post. In a general context, a shortlink is a URL that is shortened into a shorter version that is easier to remember or share.
Shortlinks are often used in social media, text messages, emails, and various other online platforms that limit the number of characters that can be used. By using shortlinks, it is easier for users to remember the link and access it.
To create a shortlink, we need a tool called a URL shortener. When the user enters the original URL into the shortener, this tool will generate a shortlink consisting of the main domain combined with additional characters.
For example, if you want to have a shortlink website with the domain xxx.co.id, then the URL you want to suppress can be xxx.co.id/[code-unique]. Example as follows:
Original URL: https://blog.exabytes.co.id/cara-membuat-tampilan-website/
URL Shortener = https://blog.exabytes.co.id/cmtw
Install Plugin URL Shortify
Here are the steps on how to create shortlinks, we will use the Shortify WordPress URL plugin that you can install for free through the Dashboard. Here's how to install and set up shortlinks in WordPress with the Shortlink plugin.
- Login to your Dashboard WordPress.
- Click the Plugins > Add new menu.
- In the search field, please type in the word "short", then click the "Install Now" button on the Shortify URL plugin as shown below.
- Next, please click the "Activate" button so that the plugin can be used.
- A new menu will appear, namely "URL Shortify" then click the Dashboard menu as shown below:
Next, click the Create button, and you can start creating a URL Shortener in WordPress.
