Cannot connect to RDS because no RD Licensing servers are available

If you experience an error message like this, it usually occurs when you want to log into a Windows server via Remote Desktop. This happens because you previously used the Remote Desktop Licensing feature of the server.

Before going any further, RD Licensing is used so that more than 2 remote desktop sessions can be applied at the same time. Because by default, when you don't use RD Licensing, there can only be 2 sessions at the same time for Remote Desktop connections.

To overcome this, you must log in to the server before the RDS License trial period expires. Or if the trial and license time expires late, then please contact us.

  • Open Server Manager
  • Then select Select Role Services
  • Confirm remove Remote Desktop Licensing
  • Restart the server

Must restart first so that the RD License effect of the server disappears after removal from Server Manager.
